"Prime" is a song by Allie X which is featured as the third track on her second extended play, CollXtion I. It was released on March 18, 2014, as the second single from the EP.
Background[]
While mainly about what X thinks about her body and appearance,[1] the song also explores themes of insecurity.[2] She stated that it reflects "the time when we all inherently believe that we are indestructible and are blissfully ignorant of the vulnerability of our fragile minds and bodies".[3]
“ | I wrote "Prime" about being a young person—being self-destructive. It's an ode to that time in your life when you know that what you're doing is going to kick you in the ass one day, but you're still doing it […] you're also laughing about the fact that you're doing it. Underneath it all, there's still that sort of foreboding feeling of knowing that one day it's not going to be like this anymore— the scariness of all that. | ” |
"Prime" was released as the third single from CollXtion I on March 18, 2014 via X's SoundCloud,[4] and the audio video was posted to her YouTube channel later that day.[5]
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Optical illusion, sexual confusion
In the best way
Liberal perception, premature connection
Always hearsay, always hearsay
[Pre-Chorus]
We are in the prime of our existence
(But I think you know the truth, it's you)
We are running blind with no resistance
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
[Chorus]
Why not give it a try?
Be a beautiful monstrosity
When you're just getting by
And happily terminal
Yeah, breathe it in 'til we're high
Healthy isn't fun or amusing
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
[Post-Chorus]
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
[Verse 2]
Fresh intoxication, retro retaliation
Do you feel me? Do you feel me?
Body, mind pollution, electro execution
Can you kill me? Can you kill me?
Eh-eh-eh-eh
[Pre-Chorus]
We are in the prime of our existence
(But I think you know the truth, it's you)
We are running blind with no resistance
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
[Chorus]
Why not give it a try?
Be a beautiful monstrosity
When you're just getting by
And happily terminal
Yeah, breathe it in 'til we're high
Healthy isn't fun or amusing
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
[Post-Chorus]
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
[Bridge]
In the prime (You are my medicine)
Prime (You are my history)
This is the prime
Oh, I've got a feeling that it won't be long
Got to get enough before my time is up (You are my medicine)
This is the prime
Oh, I've got a feeling that it won't be long
Got to get enough before my time is up (You are my history)
[Chorus]
Why not give it a try?
Be a beautiful monstrosity
When you're just getting by
And happily terminal
Yeah, breathe it in 'til we're high
Healthy isn't fun or amusing
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
[Post-Chorus]
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
[Outro]
You are my medicine, you are my history
You are my medicine, you are my history
Forget what I need, give me what I want
And it should be fine
