Background[]
On September 24, 2019, Allie teased the song with a short clip of the music video.[1] A day later, she announced the release of the song in all her social media alongside a link to presave it on music platforms.
This track was written on Allie's first day of working with Oscar Görres and James Alan Ghaleb in Sweden. Allie described the process as being trippy, with melodies and lyrics "flowing out of her".[2]
“ | That day a new sound was born which ultimately guided my writing process for the next year. Fresh Laundry marked the beginning of something significant. Because of this new playground of sounds I finally felt able to tap into some feelings I had never been able to translate into song, and I have made music that feels more “me” than anything I have ever released.
When I wrote this lyric I was thinking about the fresh scent and softness of a warm white towel after my mother did the laundry. I was thinking about how nice it would be to bury my head into a towel like that and breath it in. I was thinking about how I couldn't get my towels to smell or feel like that on my own. And I was thinking about how I couldn't go home. This is a song about longing for things you can't have. |
” |
Allie spoke about the song in her track-by-track rundown on Apple Music:[4]
“ | I wrote that opening line—‘I want to be near fresh laundry’—when I was sick in the bathtub, like, three years ago. And I was just like, 'Oh, fuck—I wish that I could just go back to being taken care of by my mom, and just put my face into a clean, Tide-smelling towel.’ But that's a feeling that I've had for a long time—like, wanting to be taken care of, but not really knowing how. | ” |
Theme[]
In this song Allie expresses her desire to have things she can't have, be it material or sentimental things. Allie wants to get out of the hole she's stuck in for whatever reasons and with that cleanliness she wants to be more vulnerable.

Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]

These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
No
No
[Verse 2]
I want to attend nice parties
'Round my neck and head, thin jewelry
[Refrain]
These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days (These days)
These days (These days)
[Chorus]
You said you're always on my side
But what if my side has changed too much?
Then tell me, who am I? (Oh)
You said you're always on my side
But what if my side has lived too long?
Something has to die
Who am I?
[Post-Chorus]
No
No
[Verse 3]
I want to wake up (I want to wake up)
To friends calling (Friends calling)
I think I've had enough (Think I've had enough)
Of hard mornings (Hard mornings)

These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days (These days)
