"Anchor" is the sixteenth track and fourth bonus track that appears on Allie X's deluxe edition of her sophomore album, Cape God. The track was written and produced in sessions with James Ghaleb and Oscar Görres. It was released as a single a week prior to the deluxe release on November 19, 2021, alongside a lyric video.

The song's title was revealed on September 29, 2021, when Allie posted the deluxe tracklist of the album on all her social media.
On November 11, 2021, Allie announced that the song will be the single from the deluxe via Instagram Stories.
"Anchor" is about a romantic relationship, an anchor can make someone feel safe and secure, protected from the outside world. Unfortunately, romantic feelings can also be dangerous when they are felt toward someone who is abusive, just like an anchor can be dangerous if it “pulls you under.” In this song, Allie is saying that she views these drugs as her anchor: they make her feel safe and grounded, but they also “pull her under” and ruin her life.
